Compass owns a portfolio encompassing more than 3,000 units of railroad rolling stock, including covered hopper cars, tank cars, boxcars, flatcars, coal hoppers, woodchip gondolas, and log cars, which are leased to railroads and industrial users. Additionally, Compass advises institutional investors on the placement, management, and remarketing of railroad lease investments and arranges lease financings on behalf of selected clients.

Compass provides customized leasing services to finance railcars and locomotives, trailers and containers, and construction and maintenance-of-way equipment. Compass is a principal investor in most cases, but can also provide advisory and remarketing services where appropriate.

Compass has a significant and growing presence in the rail transportation industry. The rail business unit is managed by a team of leasing industry veterans who have substantial breadth and depth of experience working with domestic and international banks and finance companies, North American surface transportation companies, industrial shippers, Class I and regional shortline railroads, and service providers.
